Guest Protection Plan
We adhere to the following Consumer Protection Policies.
-
We will always honor guaranteed reservations. We never knowingly over book. The price you pay for your room will
never be more than the guaranteed price. If a room specified in the
guarantee is not available we will at, our option, upgrade you to a room
of equal or better quality. In the unlikely event that no equal or
better room is available at the Roosevelt Inn for the period in which it
is guaranteed, we will arrange for equal or better accommodations
elsewhere at the same price.
-
We do not advertise special or discount
promotional prices without having reasonable availability for the
applicable dates. Such availability may be limited to no more than 10
percent of our rooms, and certain restrictions, advance bookings or
prepayments may be required. Any restrictions will be clearly described
in the promotional material.
-
We never engage in deceptive trade practices
such as "bait and switch" advertising or "packing" unexpected charges on
a guest's bill. (This should go without saying but, sadly, not all
businesses operate this way. Enough said.)
-
We endeavor to make the descriptions of our
property and facilities as accurate as possible as do other reputable
business operators in Keystone. However, please be aware of the
following:
-
No hotel or motel property in Keystone has a
good view of Mt. Rushmore. Any property that claims to have a good
view of the faces from guest rooms is misleading you. Before booking
get a full description of the claimed view. In most of Keystone, the
faces are either partially or wholly obscured by trees and are two to
three miles away from any property making such claims. (In other
words, bring binoculars.)
-
If a property does not explicitly say so, you
may be charged extra for children over the age of 5, local phone
calls, ice and other services that you might reasonably expect to be
free. We do not make any such charges.
-
Be sure to understand your rights in regard
to cancellations, shortened periods of stay, prepayments, refunds and
other potential charges regarding bookings. Our policies are clearly
explained and we think you'll agree that they are fair.
-
Before booking get a complete description of
any property's amenities and the room you will have. Don't assume that
just because a room is described as having two queen beds that it is
large or that the beds are actually full-sized queen beds. The
Roosevelt Inn uses only full-sized (industry standard) king and queen
beds. We do not use the smaller "Canadian" queens or "California"
kings. Our economy rooms have extra-long double beds.
-
Don't assume that the room rate is a guide to
quality. In Keystone it is possible to pay more for a room that is
approximately half the size of our standard guest rooms and includes
almost no free amenities.
-
Don't be misled by artificially low
advertised prices. If an advertised price seems significantly lower
than most other prices in the area, it may be a "per person" rate or
for rooms that are "sold out" or "unavailable" when you want them.
Such advertising practices are not unlawful in South Dakota even
though we think they should be. Our advice: if you call up a property
because you see an exceptionally low advertised price and find
yourself being quoted a price that is two or even three times higher,
hang up. Let someone else be suckered by this classic "bait and
switch" advertising.
-
Be wary of odd terminology. "Newly opened"
doesn't mean what you might think -- that the property is new --
rather that the property is seasonal and has been closed all winter.
The property could be more than 40 years old. "Resort" is another
ambiguous term. There is no standardized definition for a resort and
properties billing themselves as such can vary significantly in terms
of facilities.
-
Know your rights. When you reserve, ask for a written confirmation if
time
permits -- usually three to four weeks prior to your arrival. At a
minimum
this confirmation should exactly decribe the room type you will have
and
clearly state the cancellation policy -- including any charges. If you
find yourself booked into a property that was grossly misrepresented,
you
have the right to refuse the room without any charges. Generally
speaking,
your credit card issuer will take your side in any dispute you have
with
a property that has had numerous complaints lodged against it. (You may
not win if the property has a good record, however.) If you feel you
have
been treated unfairly, we urge you to contact the Department of
Consumer
Affairs, South Dakota Attorney General's Office, Pierre, SD, 57501.
