Black Hills Trip Planner

These pages tell you how to get to the Black Hills, what to do along the way, how to get around once you are here, and some of the things to expect once you arrive. The majority of visitors to the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore arrive by car, but this section also gives you information about how to get here by plane, train or bus.
This section also includes information about where to stay along the way, the local climate by seasons and towns, South Dakota traffic laws, what to bring, when to come and where to get more information. There are also useful mileage tables for distances and travel times between various Black Hills locations as well as road travel distances from various locations outside the Black Hills.
As with all such information, it should be used as a guideline only. For instances, listed travel times cannot take into account driving habits of different people. Some folks like to make lots of stops along the way while others prefer to drive right through. Adjust travel times according to your own habits. Also this section must deal in generalities when it comes to things like what to expect regarding weather and what to bring.
For tips on what to do once you arrive in the Black Hills, check out our Black Hills Attractions Section which has more than 150 pages of information about all of the fun things there are to see and do here.
