spectacular drive in fall when the Aspen and Oak display
their colors.
Autumn colors are usually at their peak sometime around the

Description:

You can
drive
through
Spearfish
Canyon
all year. |
A drive through Spearfish
Canyon is one
of the three great Black Hills drives. In
some parts of the canyon, the rim is nearly a
thousand feet above the
road which runs beside Spearfish Creek. Highlights
are the Bridal Veil
Falls, Homestake Power Station and
Roughlock Falls which are about a mile off the
main road at the head of
the canyon. The park at Roughlock Falls is where
the last scenes in the
film "Dances With Wolves" was filmed. Also, look
closely for an old
railroad cut that climbs high up the east canyon
wall. The rock cut is
400 feet above the canyon floor.
There are numerous pullouts
along the highway for
viewing and picture taking, however to take full
advantage of all the
views a motorcycle or convertible are good
choices.
Photographs and more
information about
the canyon can be found at http://www.spearfish.com/canyon.
