| Highlights: |
Mining memorabilia
from Keystone's early days |
| Description: |
Long before Mt. Rushmore had a name and
well before Gutzon Borglum
started carving the famous faces there Keystone was a thriving gold
mining
town. In fact, in it's day, the Holy Terror Mine in Keystone was even
richer
than the famed Homestake Mine in Lead. The Keystone Historical Museum,
housed in a school dating back to 1899, contains a wealth of early day
mining tools, rock and mineral specimens of the area, and historic
photos.
While you're there, you can look to the south and actually
see what remains of the old Holy Terror Mine buildings. For more
information visit their web site at: (http://www.keystonehistory.com/museum.html) |
