Much of the joy of Spearfish is
getting there. The suggested route takes you through
Spearfish Canyon, one of the most scenic drives in the
northern Black Hills. If you have the time take a slight
(1-mile) detour to Roughlock Falls near where the final
scenes in the film "Dances With Wolves" were filmed.
Bridal Veil Falls are also located in Spearfish Canyon and
are certainly worth a stop. The High Plains Heritage Center (a museum) and the DC Booth Fish Hatchery are also located in Spearfish. The town is only moderately touristy because it is located well away from most of the major sights in the Black Hills, but there are plenty of franchised food and lodging establishments clustered near the I-90 exits. Although Spearfish was once famous for the Black Hills Passion Play, the event is no longer staged. Link: http://www.visitspearfish.com/thingstodoinspearfish/attractions/ |
