The Crazy Horse Memorial is the Black Hills',
second colossal mountain carving. Work on this privately run project
has been going on for more than 50 years and is expected to continue
for another 50. Visitors often have a chance to see work in progress as
blasting and drilling activity is frequent. Special night blasts
-- enhanced with cans of gasoline for pyrotechnic effect --
are scheduled throughout the summer. The entrance fee provides access
to the Crazy Horse Memorial museum and other areas of the visitor
center. The monument can also be viewed from Highway 385 between Custer
and Hill City. Ph: 605-673-4681. Fax: 605-673-2185. memorial@crazyhorse.org. Crazy Horse Memorial, Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse, SD, 57730-9506. Web: Link to Crazy Horse Organization Home Page (Updated 7/15/2005) |
