Cave and Jewel
Cave -- are open all
year. The others
are seasonal.
The Black Hills are home to literally hundreds of caves of which nine are open for tours. Each of the caves listed here has it's own page. You can follow the link by clicking on the blue type.

Beautiful Wonderland Cave: 35 miles Near Sturgis. Fairly easy cave to tour, includes two large caverns 
Bethlehem Cave: 45 miles Between Rapid City and Sturgis near Exit 40 on I90. Formerly occupied by a religious order, features underground altar.
Black Hills Caverns: 24 miles Near Rapid City. Features 28 different formations in three level wind caverns 
Crystal Cave Park: 22 miles Near Rapid City. Easy cave tour. Crystals cover 80% of the walls & ceiling 
Jewel Cave: 31 miles West of Custer on US Highway 16. See separate listing
Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns: 10 miles On US16 toward Rapid City. Deep cave with large crystals. Somewhat strenuous tour
Stagebarn Crystal Cave: 28 miles Near Piedmont. Third longest cave in South Dakota in historical Stagebarn Canyon
Thunderhead Falls: 30 miles West of Rapid City. While not strictly a cave (it was once a gold mine), a natural waterfall now thunders through a cavern.
