The High Plains Western Heritage Center
includes both indoor and outdoor displays that celebrate the pioneering
heritage of five-state region around Western South Dakota. Exhibits
include the original Spearfish to Deadwood stagecoach, a
turn-of-the-century kitchen, a saddle shop and a blacksmith shop.
The museum's focus is on forestry, mining, ranching and
Western culture. Outdoor displays feature a furnished log cabin, a
rural schoolhouse and a collection of antique farm equipment. The
museum is also home of the National Cowboy Song and Poetry Hall of
