Fishing
The Black Hills have 17 lakes and more
than 1200 miles of trout streams. Finding all of the good fishing spots
could take more than a
week. The fishing season for most Black Hills lakes and streams runs
all
year long (Jan 1-Dec 31).
The
largest lakes are Angostura, Deerfield,
Pactola and Sheridan and Belle Fourche. Other lakes
include Roubaix, Stockade, Sylvan, Horsethief, Center and
Legion.

The most
fished species are brown, brook
and rainbow trout, and largemouth bass.
The best
guide we've found for fishing
in the Black Hills is the Fisherman's Handbook for South Dakota,
published
by the South Dakota State B.A.S.S. Federation, PO Box 905, Yankton, SD
57079 (Tel: 605-665-0808) This 80-page handbook includes many detailed
lake maps, and the latest information about South Dakota fishing
regulations.
The South
Dakota Game & Fish Department,
412 West Missouri Street, Pierre, SD, 57501, (Tel: 605-773-3485) can
provide
more information. Their web site is at http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/fishing/Index.htm.
A fishing license is required of all adults. A
one-day non-resident
fee is $7. A non-resident. Family Annual Fishing License
costs $60. A
full schedule of fees is published at:
http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/LicenseFee.htm.
