Boating

If your tastes run toward power boating four lakes come to mind: Angostura, Deerfield, Sheridan and Pactola. Most other Black Hills lakes are closed to power boats, however many are open for oar or paddle users.        Sheridan Lake has a public marina where you can rent canoes, fishing boats, pontoons or personal water craft. Rates start at $6 per hour for a canoe or a small fishing boat. A standard 6-person pontoon or a large fishing boat with a 25hp outboard is $60 per day. Personal water craft, i.e. Ski Doos, rent for $30 to $50 per hour.        If you just want to get out on some water, two lakes, Sylvan in Custer State Park and Canyon Lake in Rapid City, feature paddle-boat concessions.        Most of the streams in the Black Hills are not suitable for boating or canoeing, the exception being portions of Rapid Creek west of Rapid City.
