In the Black Hills, photography almost doesn't qualify as a special interest. It's more like universal. Indeed, this is one of the world's most photogenic places. If your pleasures run toward the grand vistas, there are numero us high points from which you can capture the beauty
of the hills. Popular photograph spots near Keystone include the Iron Mountain
lookout, Mt Rushmore and the Needles area of Custer State Park.
If your tastes run more toward pictures of animals and birds, it's hard to beat Custer State Park's wildlife or the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve. Both of these places are likely to produce superb photo opportunities. Native wildlife includes, mountain goats, buffalo, bald eagles, prairie dogs, elk, bighorn sheep, wild horses, deer, antelope, and many others. In fact, if your interest is photography just about anything mentioned on these web pages is likely to produce a photo op. A gallery of Black Hills photos can be seen at http://www.pbase.com/prplexd/black_hills_extras . Perhaps the photos from the Spearfish Canyon area will inspire you. One word of caution, however, animals in the Black Hills are truly wild, do not approach them. Buffalo are particularly dangerous during the spring caving and the fall mating seasons. |
