Gutzum Borglum's carving of the presidents on Mt Rushmore is considered a masterpeice by many. Indeed, the pleasure many get from enjoying this work is based purely on its esthetics. Mt Rushmore needs to be viewed as a national monument, but also as a work of art.      If your interest leans toward art we'd also suggest you visit the Dahl Fine Arts Center in Rapid City were you can view and exceptional mural by Bernard Preston Thomas among other displays.      The Hills are also alive with other artisans and craftsfolk such as Keystone's own Black Hills Glass Blowers and works on display at the Dakota Gallery and Sioux Pottery in Rapid City.      And, of course, nobody can leave the Black HIlls without at least looking at some Black Hills Gold.
