Not New and Not Cheap
Sadly, the marketing for some Keystone motels is
just plain false. When you drive into Keystone you may see
signs offering new rooms at $49.95 during the peak season.
In peak season this just isn't true.
In the off-season the rates might be $49.95 but you won't
find any $49.95 rooms in the months of June, July or August. Nor
will the rooms be "new" by any common definition.
In the past we have refused to discuss the ethics of
this false advertising. Indeed, we are reluctant to comment on it at
all. But on various travel sites, such as TripAdvisor, reviewers
sometimes comment that a hotel where they stayed was too expensive
because there were $49 rooms just down the street. Had these reviewers
taken the time to check, they would have found that $49 rooms don't
exist.
That's why we go to extraordinary lengths to help you
check rates at other properties.
Another tactic that has become all too common in Keystone
is the posting of fake reviews on sites such as Tripadvisor.
Parenthetically, in recent months, Tripadvisor has been
widely accused of favoring big advertisers (read chains) by holding
back negative reviews of chain properties while approving unverified
negative reviews for small hotels and independents. See http://www.allstays.com/...fake-reviews/
